Got Toxic Drywall or Sheetrock?
Don't wait around to find out if you're breathing sulfur-tainted air.
You need to know if you are going to be affected by the Chinese Drywall Recall. For one thing, your house is going to be gutted if you are, and you can't sell it if you know that you've got bad wallboard. This recall is doubly damaging to people who rebuilt their homes after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and now have to remove all of their plasterboard.
What's the problem with Chinese Drywall? Strontium Sulfide, which is responsible for a rotten egg smell, is found in defective drywall and has been blamed for causing copper corrosion. If you've got anything electronic, like a TV, DVD Player, or Home Theater System, the copper can be damaged, but that's just the start. Air Conditioner coils, jewelry, and silver are also affected. Insurers are refusing to renew policies on Chinese Drywall homes unless the problem is taken care of, and the insurance company will not reimburse a defective wallboard claim because they say bad sheetrock is a home defect, or warranty issue. In some ways this may be correct, but from a legal standpoint (where you may want to consult with a drywall attorney) this means that uninsured homes will be foreclosed on by your bank.
